South Colonie Teachers Participate in First Lab Day at CCHS

Colonie Central High School hosted the first annual Lab Day: Hands-on Minds-on Lab Activities for the Secondary Science Classroom, in April. This event was sponsored by the Master Teacher Program (MTP) of the State University of New York, and organized and coordinated by the Chemistry Professional Learning Team of the MTP.

Colonie Central High School had a strong showing with educators Jason Goldberg, Stephanie Crisci, Mary Murnane, Christine Kachadurian, Hope Bigwarfe, Kelly Coppola, and Connie Woytowich attending.

Two Colonie High educators also presented at Lab Day. Connie Woytowich, an organizing member of the Chemistry Professional Learning Team of the Master Teacher Program, presented on her new elective course, Personal Genetics. Jason Goldberg presented on Introduction to Gel Electrophoresis, which is a fundamental skill in his successful Molecular Biology course.

Lab Day has received extremely positive feedback with regards to the quality of the presentations, the relevance of the materials and concepts presented, and the physical plant of the high school. Next year, Lab Day aims to include elementary level educators in addition to secondary level to broaden the reach of high-quality professional development for all educators in the Capital Region.
