Four South Colonie Teams Qualify for Odyssey of the Mind State Competition
Congratulations to three teams of students from Lisha Kill Middle School and a team of students from Saddlewood Elementary School for moving on to the state level of the Odyssey of the Mind competition.
The teams qualified for the state finals during competition last Saturday at Shenendehowa High School. The finals will be held April 8 at Binghamton University.
The Odyssey of the Mind program teaches
students how to think divergently by providing open-ended
problems in a team setting.
Embedded in the process are 21st Century Skills such as Creativity, Innovation and Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Global Awareness, Interpersonal and Collaborative Skills, Self-Direction and Adaptability. Saddlewood qualified in the Odyssey category To Be Continued: A Superhero Cliffhanger. Lisha Kill qualified in three categories: To Be Continued: A Superhero Cliffhanger, Odd-A-Bot, and Ready, Set, Balsa.
Lisha Kill team members (pictured above left) included Trinity Abraham, Cole Atkins, Emily Babarczy, Sofia Callaghan, Micah Colling, Madison Dancil, Sean Delay, Capria DeLorenzo, Adam Hayes. Courtney Iveson, Nicholas Mastropietro, Keira McFeeley, Gavrielle Melita, Marissa Osei, Johnathon Rudat, Hannah Slater, Maggie Van Dyke, Lily VanPattenk and Hussnain Yasin. Mr. Mensching, was the South Colonie Odyssey coordinator/advisor.
Saddlewood Elementary School winners (pictured above right) were Evan Mearkle, Nick Soroko, Justin Soroko, Sophia Pickreign - coached Mr. Pickreign. Other Saddlewood participants included Joshua Cuzdey, Elijah Hinckley, Alyssa Molnar, Julius Semedo, Amelia Hinckley, and Isabelle Mason. Their coach was Mrs. Cuzdey.
Students from Roessleville Elementary
School and Veeder Elementary School also participated in Odyssey
of the Mind this year.
