Love Grows at Saddlewood Elementary School

"Rhymin' Richie" Phillips has been a fixture on Capital Region radio (107.7 WGNA) for almost 30 years. His work on the Sean and Richie show helped garner a national CMA Award for best mid market radio program in the US back in 2000.

During his long tenure there, he also created an equally award winning school program: The Reading, Writing and Rhyming Tour", where he creates songs with children and records their performances. Take a listen to the song "Love Grows", written and sung by Ms. Kalsher's second grade class at Saddlewood Elementary School.

The subjects of the songs can be used as a tool to help to reinforce good character traits (responsibility, caring, truthfulness, anti-bullying messages etc.) The program has been a recipient of two New York State Broadcasters Awards for best Community Service Programming as well as citations from the School Administrators Of NYS and the Academy for Character Education at Sage Colleges.

Richie decided to retire from his early morning radio stint in January, 2016 to concentrate on this program as well as other ventures. He is hoping to take his show "on the road" beginning in the fall.
