South Colonie PTA Units

Picture of two girls writingWhy are Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Units Important?

Parent involvement is crucial to the health and well-being of a child. As a parent, you are the most important influence in your child's success in school and in life. In this role, you have a fresh opportunity every day to get involved with your child.
Parent involvement in children’s education allows kids to perform better in school, and navigate more easily some of the challenges of growing up.

PTA is the oldest and largest child advocacy group in the nation. New York organized the first state PTA congress in 1897. Currently, New York State PTA has a membership exceeding 346,000 in more than 1,600 local units and councils.

PTA is committed to being the leading resource for parent involvement. We offer comprehensive resources for helping parents get involved and stay involved in the lives of their children. Join your child's school PTA unit and learn about new ways you can help improve your school while making a difference in your child's life.

Parent Guides Available From National PTA on Common Core Standards

The National PTA recently issued parent guides on the Common Core State Standards. The guides, created for grades K-12, include key items that children/teens should be learning in English Language Arts/English and Mathematics in each grade, once the standards are fully implemented. The guides include: Activities that parents can do at home to support their child’s/teen's learning and methods for helping parents build stronger relationships with their child’s teacher.
