Full court appreciation: Colonie basketball seniors show gratitude to teachers
In a heartfelt tribute to the teachers who have shaped their lives, the seniors of Colonie Central High School’s boys’ basketball team took part in a special senior recognition initiative. On Tuesday, Nov. 26, the graduating players surprised their educators with handwritten notes of appreciation and symbolic basketball jerseys, acknowledging the profound influence their teachers have had on them both in the classroom and on the court.
Timed perfectly during the holiday season and as the basketball season was ramping up, this gesture was part of a growing nationwide trend to express gratitude. The players, reflecting on the guidance and support they had received throughout their educational journey, took a moment to honor those who had made a lasting impact. Each teacher who had been a source of inspiration received a personalized note filled with heartfelt thanks, accompanied by a jersey representing their positive influence on the players’ lives.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see our players recognize the impact their teachers have had on their lives,” said Colonie basketball coach Greg Davis. “These educators have supported them through many challenges, both on and off the court. This gesture is a small but meaningful way for the team to express their deep appreciation.”
The surprise recognition was met with touching reactions from both teachers and students. The moment allowed the seniors to give back to the teachers who helped mold them into the individuals they are today.
