Colonie Central High School junior Jacob Tirado has made history with a record-breaking three-game bowling series. Tirado achieved an 890 series over three games, including back-to-back perfect 300 games, a feat that is not only rare but also historic. His 890 score is the second-highest ever recorded by a junior bowler in the nation, setting a new state record, as well as Section 2 and school records.

"Jacob’s accomplishment is nothing short of extraordinary," said Dr. David Perry, Superintendent of Schools. "His remarkable skill, focus, and determination are a true inspiration to his peers and our entire Colonie community. We are incredibly proud of Jacob and look forward to watching his continued success."

We caught up with the bowling sensation to learn more about his journey and passion for the sport.

Q&A with Jacob Tirado

Congratulations on such an incredible achievement, Jacob! Let’s start with your journey. When did you first start bowling?

I’ve always enjoyed bowling for fun since I was younger, but I started taking it seriously when I became a freshman in high school.
 

What do you love most about bowling?

I love that bowling is always a challenge because every location has unique lanes and patterns.

Let’s talk about your record-breaking series. What was going through your mind as you bowled those back-to-back 300 games?

I wasn’t thinking about anything specific because I didn’t want to overthink it—I just focused on staying consistent.

The 890 series is the second-highest score in the nation for a junior bowler. How does it feel to have accomplished something so historic?

It feels amazing but overwhelming all at the same time.

Do you have any pre-game rituals or routines that help you stay focused?

I don’t have any pre-game rituals or routines, other than taking a few practice shots to warm up.
 

What advice would you give to younger bowlers who want to achieve success in the sport?
Don’t give up when things get tough, and don’t let a bad performance get in your head.

What’s next for you? Are there any specific goals you’re working toward?
My goal is to focus on maintaining consistency in my bowling.
