South Colonie launches Mascot Naming Project; Submissions open to students
The South Colonie Central School District is thrilled to kick off a creative new project, inviting students from across the district to take part in naming our two new wolf mascots. This is more than just a naming contest—it’s a chance to tell the story of these mascots and bring them to life for our entire school community.
Students are encouraged to dive into their imaginations and come up with names for each of our two wolves. But it doesn't stop there! Every great mascot has a story, and we want to hear the unique backstory of each wolf. Where did they come from? How did they make their way to Colonie? Were they friends before, or did they meet for the first time here? The more fun and relatable the story, the better!
Each school will guide this process, with teachers and staff helping students explore their ideas and craft their stories. In the coming weeks, schools will collect submissions and select up to three sets of names and backstories that best capture the spirit of our new mascots. The final selections from each school will then make their way to the Communications Department, where the top three stories will be chosen and presented to the Board of Education for final naming.
"This is an exciting time for South Colonie as we fully embrace the Wolf Pack name and identity,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry. “The mascot naming project allows our students to get involved in this new chapter, fostering creativity and unity. I can't wait to see the stories they come up with."
The winning names and stories will be revealed later this fall, timed perfectly with the arrival of the district’s custom athletic mascot.
