South Colonie Welcomes Faculty and Staff Back at Opening Day Celebration

Faculty and staff from across the South Colonie Central School District gathered in the Colonie Central High School auditorium on Tuesday, Sept. 2, to mark the official start of the 2025-26 school year with the district’s annual Opening Day celebration.
The morning event brought together educators, support staff, administrators, and district leaders in advance of the first day of school for students on Sept. 4. Superintendent Dr. David Perry addressed the audience, highlighting priorities for the year ahead and recognizing the dedication of staff who continue to support students and families.
As part of the program, district leaders shared updates on ongoing capital improvement projects, welcomed new staff and leaders, and recognized employees who have dedicated more than 30 years of service to South Colonie.
Staff also received important updates on district initiatives, including the implementation of a new cell phone policy designed to support student focus and engagement in the classroom, as well as changes to New York State graduation requirements. Dr. Perry emphasized how these shifts align with South Colonie’s commitment to preparing graduates who embody the district’s “Portrait of a Graduate” qualities.
“Opening Day is about coming together as one district, united in our purpose of preparing students for success,” said Dr. Perry. “It’s always exciting to start a new school year and build on our strong foundation of academics, wellness, character, and community.”
The Board of Education also joined the celebration to welcome back staff and share their appreciation for the dedication shown throughout the district.
With staff energized and ready, the South Colonie Central School District looks forward to welcoming students back on Wednesday, Sept. 4, to begin another year of learning, growth, and achievement.
