Principal for a day: Shaker Road celebrates summer reading sweepstakes
This year’s winner of the Shaker Road Summer Reading Sweepstakes is third grade student Ella Brockway! As the grand prize, Brockway had the exciting opportunity to serve as the school’s Principal-for-a-Day.
Over the summer, Brockway dove into a variety of books, including an impressive 19 titles from the Magic Tree House series. Her favorite read was Windy Night with Wild Horses, and she eagerly recommends all of the Magic Tree House books to fellow readers.
Since starting third grade, one of Brockway’s highlights has been participating in her class's daily reading stamina exercises. The goal? To sustain focus on their reading for 20 minutes. Currently, the class has reached an impressive 14 minutes, climbing closer to their target each day.
Outside the classroom, Brockway is an active student. She has a passion for wrestling and has proudly earned numerous medals in tournaments over the past few years. Along with her success in wrestling, she is also involved in cheerleading, embodying a true all-around athlete.
As Principal-for-a-Day, Brockway set a high standard for the school's everyday principal. She spent the day actively engaging in hallways and classrooms, even taking the time to meet with a group of students to address a community issue—litter being left at the newly renovated Imagination Station playground. With her thoughtful and proactive approach, Brockway tackled the challenge head-on, demonstrating strong leadership and a deep sense of community.
It’s safe to say that Brockway made the most of her day as principal, showing just how much a dedicated and energetic third grader can accomplish.
Congratulations, Ella, on your summer reading success and for being a fantastic Principal-for-a-Day!
