Colonie student wins mascot naming contest: Izzy Trimarchi's story of Wolfie and Alpha
South Colonie Central School District is proud to announce that the winning story for the mascot naming contest was submitted by CCHS student Izzy Trimarchi. Trimarchi’s heartwarming story of Wolfie and Alpha captures the spirit of connection, resilience, and belonging that defines the being part of the Pack.
Trimarchi’s story begins on September 5, 2024—Wolfie’s first day of high school.
"What if all the humans don't like me?", he thought. On the bus, he was getting many looks. Nobody would sit by him or even talk to him. At 7 a.m., the bus had arrived at school and Wolfie stepped out, looking at the giant school ahead. Stressed out, Wolfie strutted up to the main entrance reading "Colonie Central High School." Wolfie had first period in room 114, an English classroom. Not knowing much English added to Wolfie's stress. Minutes later, Wolfie found the door of room 114, took a deep breath, and stepped in. To Wolfie’s surprise, there was someone just like them in the class—another wolf! Neither of them had gone to school with another wolf in years. Wolfie immediately introduced themself to the other wolf, who introduced themself as Alpha. Through quick conversation, Wolfie and Alpha realized they had gone to Saddlewood Elementary for pre-k, then got separated for elementary and middle school. Wolfie had stayed at Saddlewood all five years, while Alpha moved to Forest Park. Both were so relieved to have each other again. Sharing schedules, they found they had lunch together every day. Filled with joy, they realized that high school really might not be too bad after all!
“Wolfie and Alpha’s journey reflects the heart of our district,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry. “It’s a story about overcoming fears, finding support, and thriving together. We’re thrilled to have such a meaningful backstory for our mascots that students of all ages can connect with.”
With Trimarchi’s story as the foundation, the names Wolfie and Alpha have been officially adopted as the Colonie Wolf Pack mascots, embodying the spirit of unity and courage. This creative project highlights how storytelling can bring a community together and inspire students to embrace new experiences with confidence and compassion.
Congratulations to Izzy Trimarchi for sharing Wolfie and Alpha’s journey with us, and for reminding everyone in the Colonie community that no matter where we come from, we all have a place in the pack!
