South Colonie rallies support for the 9th Annual Bears, Books, and Blankets Collection
The South Colonie School District will once again participate in the 9th annual Bears, Books, and Blankets collection, a cherished tradition that continues to make a meaningful impact on the community. This annual event was established to honor the memory of William Rogan, the grandson of former Board President Ed Sim and the nephew of Transportation Director Brian Sim. William’s legacy of kindness lives on through this initiative, bringing warmth and comfort to those in need.
The Bears, Books, and Blankets collection invites community members to donate new stuffed animals, books, and blankets. In compliance with hospital standards, all donated items must be new and will be distributed to Boston Children's Hospital through The Warrior Will Foundation. The foundation's mission is to provide cozy blankets, vibrant books, and adorable stuffed animals to the hospital’s young patients, reminding these little warriors that they are not alone.
“This collection is a reflection of the strong spirit of giving that defines our community,” said Dr. David Perry, superintendent of schools. “When families are going through difficult times, sometimes the simplest things—a cozy blanket, a comforting stuffed animal, or a captivating book—can make a big difference for children who are ill or undergoing treatment. It’s a meaningful way to honor William’s memory while offering support to those who need it most.
Donations will be accepted at all South Colonie school buildings, as well as the District Office, through Friday, Feb. 28. The continued success of this program is a testament to the generosity of the South Colonie community, and organizers are hopeful that this year’s collection will once again exceed expectations.
