Veeder Odyssy of the Mind Teams excel in local contest, earn invitations to state championships
Odyssey of the Mind, a globally recognized program, cultivates students’ innate creativity to tackle challenges and develop problem-solving skills. It emphasizes teamwork, time management, budgeting, and public speaking.
This past weekend, two teams representing 13 students from Veeder Elementary showcased their talents at the Region 7 tournament hosted by Shenendehowa Central School District. Going head-to-head with nearby elementary schools, these teams tackled one of five long-standing problems they’ve been diligently preparing for months
In addition to their prepared presentations, the two teams faced spontaneous challenges, testing their ability to think on their feet and solve problems swiftly.
“By participating in these activities, students develop independence, teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking,” noted Veeder Elementary Principal Nora Sullivan. “Their performances were truly exceptional, and both teams, led by Mrs. Penderegast and Mrs. Gresis, deserve congratulations for their achievement of second place!”
With a second-place win under their belt, both teams are eligible to move on to the state.
