Think Outside the Drum: Percussion ensemble strikes at Lisha Kill Middle School
This week students at Lisha Kill Middle School had the opportunity to expand their musical horizons with a special presentation titled "Think Outside the Drum.” Hosted by the acclaimed percussion quartet, Third Coast Percussion, the students participated in an engaging exploration of the building blocks of music in a fun and interactive format.
The presentation kicked off with an introduction to the fundamental elements of music: rhythm, melody, and timbre. Through active participation in a series of interactive activities, including clapping, singing, and a listening game, students were able to grasp these concepts in a hands-on way.
“One of the highlights was the exploration of percussion instruments from cultures around the world, as well as those found in everyday kitchen cabinets,” said principal Jil Penn. “From traditional drums to unconventional household items used as percussion instruments, students were introduced to a variety of sounds that can be produced through percussion.”
Throughout the presentation, students were captivated by the dynamic performances and engaging demonstrations by the four members of Third Coast Percussion. The ensemble's ability to blend education with entertainment ensured that students not only learned about music but also had a great time doing so.
