South Colonie ENL picnic brings joy and celebration to Lisha Kill Middle School

The Lisha Kill Middle School cafeteria was filled with laughter on Monday, June 10, as South Colonie's Elementary English as a New Language (ENL) team hosted its annual picnic. The event celebrated the achievements of K-4 English Learners and brought together teachers, staff, family members, and peers to recognize the students' hard work and progress in language skills.

This year's picnic was particularly special as it included students and families from all five elementary schools in the district. "The ENL Picnic is a testament to South Colonie's continued support of our students and families," said ENL Teacher Alexandria Milne. "K-4 English Learners and their families filled Lisha Kill's cafeteria to enjoy pizza, lemonade, and cookies served by teacher volunteers. It was a powerful opportunity for students, families, teachers, and administrators across the district to connect."

The event also served as an essential platform for family engagement. "Students and families appreciate the chance to get together for a fun evening to recognize the accomplishments of their children," added ENL Teacher Briana Gualtieri. "Our students work so hard throughout the year, especially in the spring when they take their big English test. They deserve to be recognized for all of their efforts. This event is such a treat for our South Colonie staff too because we get to reconnect with former students and families!"

A special thank you to all the ENL teachers who made this event possible: Brie Marchese, Alexandria Milne, Vanessa Mauriello, Michelle Kovall, Sally Ward, and Briana Gualtieri.
