South Colonie names McCarthy as Colonie Central High School Associate Principal
On Tuesday, August 13, the South Colonie Board of Education approved the appointment of Tess McCarthy as the new associate principal of Colonie Central High School, effective immediately. McCarthy has been an educator for 14 years, joining South Colonie Central School District in August 2016. She began her journey in the district as a middle school music teacher at Sand Creek and most recently served as the high school choral director at Colonie Central High School.
McCarthy's educational journey began at The College of Saint Rose, where she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Education. Recently, she furthered her professional development by completing the Leadership Academy at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA). Tess is also on track to complete a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Administration from MCLA by the end of August.
“We are excited to welcome Tess to the leadership team,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry. “I’m confident that she will bring fresh perspectives and strong leadership to the high school, benefiting both our students and staff as we continue to move forward.”
“I am excited for the opportunity to serve the South Colonie community in my new role as a CCHS associate principal,” said McCarthy. "I believe each student brings a unique perspective that needs to be considered, and I'm eager to help all students cultivate a love of learning that will prepare them well for life beyond Colonie."
McCarthy holds an unwavering commitment to the well-being and success of students, families, and staff. She believes that an equitable and reflective approach to education is essential as students have varying learning styles and needs. Her philosophy is that people will rise to their fullest potential and meet any standard when they are met with dignity, support, and genuine caring.
"We look forward to working alongside Tess as she transitions into her new role at South Colonie," added Superintendent Perry.
