Socktober at Lisha Kill: a sole-warming event spreading kindness
October is not just about pumpkin spice lattes and spooky costumes at Lisha Kill Middle School; it is also about spreading warmth and kindness through its annual Socktober event. This nationwide initiative encourages individuals to donate new socks to those in need within their local communities.
Lisha Kill's Best Buddies chapter is the lead organizer for this year’s drive, partnering with Things of My Very Own, a local nonprofit that provides services to foster children and their families. The goal is simple: to collect as many pairs of socks as possible to keep the feet of local children warm during the chilly autumn and winter months.
Students, staff, and community members are encouraged to bring in new socks to the school's front office. Those who are unable to shop for socks can also contribute by making a monetary donation. Every $5 donated will be used to purchase one pair of socks.
"Last year, our incredible community came together to donate an astounding 1,012 pairs of socks,” said Principal Jill Penn, “This year, we're aiming to surpass that number and make an even greater impact. Every pair of socks donated will bring warmth and comfort to children in need, and we encourage everyone to participate in this meaningful cause."
The Socktober event at Lisha Kill is more than just a sock drive; it was a testament to the school's commitment to giving back and making a positive impact on the community. The students and staff come together to spread warmth, kindness, and hope. And as the chilly winter months approach, the children who receive these donated socks will undoubtedly feel a sense of comfort and care.
