South Colonie and Senator Jake Ashby’s office set to host free paint recycling event

The South Colonie Central School District, in collaboration with Senator Jake Ashby’s Office and GreenSheen Paint, will host a Free Paint Recycling Event on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Colonie Central High School.
This community event provides the Capital Region with a convenient and environmentally friendly way to dispose of leftover paint. Whether you’re a homeowner finishing a renovation project or a professional painter with surplus supplies, this is an opportunity to clear out old paint safely and sustainably.
“We’re excited to bring this free service to our community,” said Senator Jake Ashby. “Proper paint disposal helps protect our environment while making it easier for residents to manage leftover materials responsibly.”
South Colonie Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry echoed the importance of this initiative, highlighting the district’s partnership with the Senator.
“Partnering with Senator Ashby to provide this free opportunity is a great way to support our community while promoting responsible environmental practices,” Perry said. “By working together, we’re ensuring that recycling is simple, accessible, and beneficial for everyone. We’re proud to be a part of this effort to make free paint recycling easily available in our community.”
To participate, register here and select a time slot most convenient for you. Participants should enter the campus from Sand Creek Road and stay in their vehicles while event staff and volunteers assist with unloading and recycling materials.
The Colonie Central High School Eco Club will take the lead in organizing student volunteers for the event. Clubs that participate by sending student volunteers will have the opportunity to collect donations to support their respective programs.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with the community while promoting sustainability," Dr. Perry said. "We encourage residents to support our students and their enrichment initiatives as they participate in this free recycling opportunity."
