Winter Sports Season Recap: Championship Wins, State Appearances & Record-Breaking Performances

The Colonie Wolf Pack concluded a remarkable winter sports season, marked by championship victories, state-level achievements, and standout individual performances across various disciplines. Here's an overview of the season's highlights
Girls Basketball
Colonie will face Liverpool, the Section III champion, in the Regional Championship on Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m. at Onondaga Community College. The team won the Class AAA Sectional Championship with a 68-58 victory over Shaker on Monday, March 10, at HVCC. In the Sectional Semifinals on Friday, March 7, No. 2 seed Colonie defeated No. 3 Albany at 6 p.m. at HVCC.
Cheerleading
Colonie cheer finished fifth at the New York State Championships on Saturday, March 8, in Binghamton. The team won the Section II Co-Ed Championship on Saturday, March 1, at Saratoga High School and claimed the Suburban Council League Championship on Saturday, February 22.
Boys Indoor Track
At the Class A NYSPHSAA Championships on Saturday, March 8, at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex in Staten Island, Ryan Buskey won the high jump, Owen Conley finished second in the 1,600, Ian Zehnder placed third in the 1,600, and Shane LaFountain finished third in the intersectional relay.
Colonie won the Section II Championship on Monday, February 17. Individual Sectional champions:
- Ryan Buskey (high jump, long jump)
- Derek Nash (triple jump)
- Kajuan Cody (55-meter hurdles)
- Owen Conley (1,600 meters, 4x800 relay)
- 4x800 relay champions: Shane LaFountain, Alex Rennick, Owen Conley, Brayden Miller
Girls Indoor Track
- At the Class A NYSPHSAA Championships on Saturday, March 8, the 4x200 relay team of Lilly Palmer, Cherish Banks-Valdes, Mariah Durenay, and Caitlyn Norris placed fifth.
- Colonie finished third in the Section II Championship on Monday, February 17. Kalea Graves won the shot put.
Boys Basketball
Colonie fell to Shaker in the Class AAA Sectional Semifinals on Thursday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. in Glens Falls. The team defeated Shenendehowa 58-48 in the Section II Quarterfinals on Sunday, March 2, at noon at HVCC.
Wrestling
At the NYSPHSAA Championships on February 28-29 at MVP Arena, Vincent Mastrianni placed fifth.
Colonie competed in the Section II Championships on Monday, February 17, at Guilderland High School:
- 101 lbs: Caleb Jordan, 6th
- 124 lbs: Vincent Mastrianni, 2nd
- 170 lbs: Wyatt Roe, 5th
- 285 lbs: Jaxson Woodward, 4th
Gymnastics
Nicole Fitzgerald competed in the NYSPHSAA Championships on Saturday, March 1, at Clarence High School. She finished second in the balance beam at the Section II Championships on Wednesday, February 12.
Boys Bowling
Jacob Tirado will compete in the NYSPHSAA Championships on Saturday, March 15, at AMF Strike-N-Spare Lanes in Syracuse. The team finished second in the Section II Team Championships on Monday, February 10.
Girls Bowling
Colonie finished fourth in the Section II Team Championships on Wednesday, February 12.
Girls Wrestling
At the Section II State Qualifier on Tuesday, February 18, at Guilderland High School:
- Julie Brizzell finished third
- Kaidra Cody finished sixth
Ice Hockey
Colonie lost in the Section II First Round to CBA, 3-2.
Boys Swimming
Colonie competed in the Section II Championships on Friday, February 14, at Shenendehowa High School.
