The competition brought together young engineers to design and test wind turbines, as well as to present their knowledge of energy and the engineering design process to a panel of judges, with top-performing teams earning invitations to the KidWind World Championships in Phoenix, Arizona, this May.

Capital Region KidWind Challenge Results

Grade 4/5 Division:

• 1st Place: The Swimming Hotdogs – RJ Romand & Avi Kimball (Advancing to Worlds)

• 2nd Place: The Beaming Godzillas – Nicholas Robilotti & Caden Edick

• 3rd Place: The Waddling Penguins – Douglass Lougee, Kevin Lin, & Abram Malik

Grade 6-8 Division:

• 1st Place: The Flying Pickles – Kara Stolicky, Jameson Hynes, Joseph Brunetto, & Lewis White (Advancing to Worlds)

• 2nd Place: The Speedy Spinners – Tristan Murphy, Alex Kidder, & Carter Sloan

• 3rd Place: The Flapping Ducks – Landon Sevearance, Jackson Miller, & Jacob Luna

Several South Colonie teams also participated in the Utica Regional Power-Only KidWind Competition on Tuesday, March 18, competing against teams from across the state.
