Colonie teacher Woytowich earns PhD; Honored at board meeting
On May 28, the South Colonie Board of Education honored longstanding Colonie educator Colonie Woytowich for earning her Ph.D. in Education from the University at Albany.
This recognition at the Board of Education meeting serves as a testament to Woytowich's dedication and commitment to education, having served as an integral part of the Colonie Central High School Science Department for over two decades. A distinguished alumni and NYS Master Teacher Emeritus, Woytowich has significantly enriched South Colonie's academic offerings through her innovative course development and dedicated teaching.
“As a first generation college graduate in my family, achieving my Ph.D.has been a long-term goal, one that I paused to focus on raising my family, whom I consider my greatest accomplishment,” said Woytowich as she reflected on her educational path and the influence of her upbringing. “The work ethic my parents and South Colonie instilled in me, coupled with the public education system and my faith, propelled me from a local public high school to earning five degrees from the University at Albany. Academics aside, I have always believed that the most important job in the world is to be a parent, as you are the first teacher a child encounters. This belief fuels my passion for public education and its pivotal role in social mobility.”
Her colleague, Science Coordinator John Kilroy, commends Woytowich's dedication and her innovative approach to education are truly inspirational. “Her achievements reflect her commitment not only to her personal goals but also to the betterment of our community. We are proud to support her continued service and leadership.”
Woytowich has been working the last several years towards the completion of her Ph.D.
Earning her Ph.D. in Education from the University at Albany equips Woytowich with enhanced skills that will enable a more comprehensive approach to her work at the high school. This newfound knowledge empowers her to continually enhance and refine the educational experience for students. Next year, Dr. Woytowich will elevate the district's science curriculum by introducing 'Introduction to Pharmaceutical Science', in collaboration with the Albany College of Pharmacy.
